Matt Gaetz is an American lawyer and politician. Matt was born on May 7, 1982, in Hollywood, Florida, U.S. He is known as U.S. representative for Florida's 1st congressional district since 2017. He temporarily worked in private practice after graduating from William & Mary Law School before running for state representative. From 2010 until 2016, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives, where he gained national recognition for defending Florida's controversial "stand-your-ground law"in the aftermath of Trayvon Martin's killing in 2012. He was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2016, and he was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.

Matt Gaetz Career

He temporarily worked in private practise after graduating from William & Mary Law School before running for state representative. From 2010 until 2016, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives, where he gained national recognition for defending Florida's controversial "stand-your-ground law"in the aftermath of Trayvon Martin's killing in 2012. He was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2016, and he was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.

Gaetz attended Niceville High School and grew up near Fort Walton Beach. He earned a Bachelor of Science in transdisciplinary sciences from Florida State University in 2003 and a Juris Doctor from William & Mary Law School in 2007. On February 6, 2008, Gaetz was admitted to the Florida Bar. Gaetz was barred from practicing law in Florida in October 2021 owing to outstanding fees.

Gaetz's father served in the Florida State Senate from 2006 to 2016, representing sections of Northwest Florida and serving as Senate President from 2012 to 2014.

Stanley Jerome (Jerry) Gaetz, Gaetz's grandpa, was the mayor of Rugby, North Dakota, and ran for lieutenant governor of North Dakota at the North Dakota Republican Party state convention in 1964, when he died of a heart attack.

Gaetz announced his engagement to Ginger Luckey, the sister of Oculus VR founder and significant Republican donor Palmer Luckey, in December 2020. In August of 2021, they tied the knot.
