A driving license is the most crucial document for operating any vehicle irrelevant of the part of the country you belong. It is mandatory for every human being of 18 years or above to carry a driving license with them. It permits the license holder to operate vehicles like car, motorbike, bus and even a truck is covered.
In Uttar Pradesh, the operations of the tranport system are managed by the state’s transport authorities and regional transport authorities or we know these departments by the name of RTA or RTO.

Uttar Pradesh Driving License Yojana Registration Process
- Multiple vehicles are present for which a driving license can be applied. Licenses are issued by the regional transport authorities on the basis of the size of the vehicles.
You can find the list of vehicles given below:
- Light motor vehicles like cars, auto-rickshaws, taxis and delivery vans.
- Medium size vehicles like tempos travelers and minivans, bigger commercial vehicles.
- Large size vehicles like buses which are used for commercial purpose.
- Lets’ look at the simplified process of application for driving license step by step:
- Online Process
- Visit the official website sarathi.nic.in and click on the section named ‘Application for new Driving License’.
- Go to the tab named ‘New driving license’.
- Fill the appropriate details as asked in the form and submit the same with essential documents.
- If someone is not in the possession of a computer/mobile, they can visit the nearby e-mitra and ask the person to fill your application form.
- Besides above, you can also download form number 4 and fill your details and submit the same to RTO along with requisite documents.
- Getting the permit for operating a vehicle is not free. You have to pay the requisite fees as per the guidelines of the scheme.
- An application number will be allotted to you.
- You will be then asked to fix a schedule for driving test.
- Make sure you are present on the selected date and time.
- If you the clear the driving test, the driving license will be issued to you in 3 weeks time.
- Offline Process
- If you wish to go for offline process, then you have to visit the respective office of RTO to obtain the application form.
- Fill the appropriate details as asked in the form and submit the same to the RTO office along with the required documents (discussed below).
- Getting the permit for operating a vehicle is not free. You have to pay the requisite fees as per the guidelines of the scheme.
- You will be asked to choose the date and time by which you can give the driving test.
- If you the clear the driving test, the driving license will be issued to you in 3 weeks time.
- In case of you fail to pass the driving test, you will get one more chance to appear for test again after one week from the first test.
- It is to be noted that before applying for the driving license, a person as to get the learners’ license for which the process is mentioned below:
- Visit the official website https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/sarathiservice8/stateSelection.do.
- Fill the appropriate details as asked and then submit all the necessary documents as mentioned below
- Proof of age.
- Proof of address.
- Form number 1 ****
- For the applicant who is 50 years and above, attach a medical certificate form number 1A also.
- Don’t forget to attach your photo with signature.
- The above documents shall be of appropriate size and format.
- You have to pay the requisite fees as per the guidelines of the scheme.
- You will be asked to choose the date and time by which you can give the driving test.
- Take your application form, fees receipt and test booking receipt in addition to the copies of proof of age and address.
- You will be required to appear for a computer based learners’ test.
- If you the clear the driving test, the screen will show you pass and issue a learners’ license certificate which can be used while driving.
- In case of you fail to pass the driving test, you will get one more chance to appear for test again after one week from the first test.
- Learner’s license is valid for 6 months within which one shall apply for permanent driving license.

Uttar Pradesh Driving License Yojana Eligibility criteria
- The applicant shall be at least 18 years old.
- The applicant shall possess a learners’ license.
- The application shall be made within 6 months from the issue of learners’ license or 30 days from the expiry of learners’ license.
- In the case of commercial vehicle applicants, the minimum age requirement is 20 years.
