He made his Bollywood debut with Paheli, directed by Prashant Nanda. He became a popular actor after appearing in Kanak Mishra's Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979) and Satyen Bose's Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1980). In Ramanand Sagar's Vikram Aur Betaal, he made his small-screen debut.
