He was approached to serve as a disc jockey (his occupation at the time) for a customer who was conducting a Christmas vacation helicopter skiing trip in Canada in 2015 when he was 32 years old. Despite having no prior experience skiing, he was flown up the mountain by helicopter and fell in love with the snow and the scenery right away. He traveled to Whistler, British Columbia (Canada) to learn to ski a few months later. After attending the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang as a spectator, he developed a liking for the Olympics. After seeing the film Cool Runnings, he pondered competing in the Olympics as Jamaica's first Alpine skier. In 2019, he met Gordon Gray (USA), a former Europa Cup ski racer who became his first coach. For the 2019/20 season, he relocated to Revelstoke, British Columbia (CAN), where he skied practically every day. He then relocated to Jackson, Wyoming (USA) as his headquarters for the 2020/21 season and began plotting his competitive path to the Olympics. He reduced his FIS race points from almost 600 to under the needed 160 in just 22 months. He raced in FIS and national championship events around Europe in the lead-up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
