Professional Career: - Rivera accompanied a friend to an audition for the touring company Call Me Madam, which starred Elaine Stritch, and ended up earning the part herself. She went on to appear in numerous Broadway plays such as Guys and Dolls, Can-Can, Mr. Wonderful, and Seventh Heaven, as well as dancing on The Maurice Chevalier Special in 1956. In 1957, she was cast in the part that would propel her to Broadway stardom, the fiery Anita in West Side Story.
