Former political advisor and novelist Derek Draper passed yesterday at the age of 56, according to his wife Kate Garraway. From the time of his infection in March 2020, Draper had been dealing with severe Covid-19 problems. With a message shared on Instagram, TV host Garraway acknowledged his passing.
"I'm sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away," she stated in a message. Since his cardiac collapse in early December, which some of you may be aware of, he has been in serious condition. This is due of the damage caused by Covid in March 2020, which resulted in further difficulties.
"Derek was enveloped by his loved ones in his final moments and I was by the side of holding his hand through the last days and when he passed." She went on, "I want to thank all the medical professionals who worked so hard to save him and to make his last moments as peaceful and dignified as possible. I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course.
"Sending plenty of love and gratitude to everyone who has so kindly supported our family with such kindness. Derek, my darling, rest in peace and gentleness. I am so grateful that you are in my life." Leading the tributes was former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, who called Draper a "good colleague and great friend".
