Early Life: - Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud was born on 11 November 1959 in Bombay, Bombay State, India. His mother Prabha was a classical musician. He graduated with honors in economics and mathematics from St. Stephen's College in Delhi in 1979 and attended Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and St. Columbia School in Delhi. He then graduated in law from the Faculty of Law, the University of Delhi in 1982, followed by a master's degree in law from Harvard Law School in 1983.
Career: - Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud studied law at Delhi University in 1982, at a time when there were few jobs for fresh law graduates. He worked for some time as a junior lawyer assisting lawyers and judges, including writing memoirs for Fali Nariman. Upon his return to India after graduating from Harvard, he practiced law at the Supreme Court of India and the High Court in Bombay. He was appointed Senior Advocate by the Bombay High Court in June 1998.
