Early Life & Career: - Under the influence of the nihilist Hans Jaeger, who encouraged him to depict his own emotional and psychological state (a practice known as "soul painting"), Munch started to lead a bohemian lifestyle. This is where his unique style came from.
New influences and outlets came with travel. He gained a lot of inspiration from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin in Paris, particularly from their use of color. While he began a large series of paintings he would later refer to as The Frieze of Life, representing a sequence of strongly felt topics like love, worry, jealousy, and betrayal, immersed in the atmosphere, he met the Swedish writer August Strindberg in Berlin, whom he portrayed.
The Girls on the Bridge, one of Munch's paintings, sold for US$54.5 million (about $61,500,000 in 2021) at Sotheby's in New York on November 14, 2016, making it the second-highest price ever paid for one of his works. A rare original print of The Scream was included in the 83-piece Edvard Munch: Love and Angst exhibition, which took place in April 2019 at the British Museum. The Courtauld Gallery presented the Edvard Munch exhibition in May 2022. Masterpieces from Bergen feature 18 paintings from the collection of Norwegian businessman Rasmus Meyer.
