Fatima Sheikh born on January 9, 1831 is known as the first Muslim woman educator and social reformer from India.

Fatima was born on January 9, 1831. She became the first Muslim woman to work as a teacher alongside other social reformers like Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. Fatima had a brother named Mian Usman Sheikh.
Fatima used to teach the children of downside community like Bahujan children in the Phules’ school. She did this work of teaching with her colleagues and social reformers Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule.
Fatima Sheikh met Savitribai Phule in a teaching training institution which was an American missionary ran by Cynthia Farrar.
She enlightened the children and taught them all about religion and caste. She used to teach at all the five schools run by Phule family. Fatima Sheikh also founded two schools in Mumbai earlier known as Bombay in the year 1851.
