Jayam Ravi was born on 10th September, 1980 in Thirumangalam, Tamil Nadu, India. His father is the veteran film editor, Amritha Mohan while his mother is Varalakshmi Mohan. He spent his childhood with 2 siblings, sister Roja being a dentist and Brother Mohan Raja, film director.
Speaking of his education, he did his schooling from Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He obtained graduation degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai. He then decided to pursue his career in acting.
Post his graduation, he wanted to pursue his career in acting but firstly he did a job of assistant director in the film Aalavandhan (2001). Few people know that he made his debut as a child artist in the film directed by his father back in 1993 Bava Bavamaridi.
In 2002, he made his debut with Jayam which was directed by his brother Mohan and produced by his father. Year 2004 was a glorious year for him when his performance in the film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi was highly appreciated by the critic.
