Career: - Lawler beat Superstar Billy Graham on November 12, 1979, while competing in the CWA, to win the title of CWA World Champion. The infamous battle between Lawler and comedian Andy Kaufman started in 1982. By defeating Austin Idol on March 7, 1983, Lawler captured the AWA International Championship. On April 12, 1984, Lawler won the NWA Mid-America Championship by defeating Randy Savage. On December 15, 1988, at Superclash III, he fought Von Erich to combine the two titles. He competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling in March 1989. On March 16, 1989, he was defeated by IWGP Heavyweight Champion Tatsumi Fujinami. Lawler made his professional wrestling debut in 1989 with the Memphis-based USWA, where he earned the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship 28 times.
As an announcer on Superstars in December 1992, Lawler launched his WWF career. He fought with Bret Hart and the rest of the Hart family from 1993 until 1995. Lawler briefly competed in wrestling in Smoky Mountain Wrestling in late 1994 and early 1995 (SMW).
