Jim Larrañaga is an American college basketball coach, he is the head coach of the University of Miami Hurricanes men's basketball team since 2011. He was born on 02 October 1949 in Bronx, New York, United States, he attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens where he started on the basketball varsity team and graduated in 1967.
Later, he played basketball at Providence College where he was the team captain as a senior in the 1970–71 season, he graduated as the fifth all-time leading scorer and was named New England's Division I Sophomore of the Year in 1969 and graduated in 1971 with an economics degree. He was selected in the sixth round of the 1971 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons, but instead, he opted to go into coaching, he was recognized with his induction into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 1991.
