John Oates Wiki: - William Oates was born on April 7, 1948, in New York City, the son of Ann De Palma and Al Oates. His mother was a Salerno-born Italian immigrant, while his American father was born to a Gibraltarian mother and an English father. He grew up in North Wales, Pennsylvania. During his senior year at North Penn High School, he was co-captain of the wrestling team. Oates declined wrestling scholarships in favor of attending Temple University since "it was in the city."
In 1966, he recorded "I Need Your Love" with the Masters for Philadelphia-based Crimson Records. John enrolled at Temple University in Philadelphia after graduating from North Penn High School in 1966, when he met Daryl Hall, a senior at Temple who was also a professional musician. They were in various collegiate bands before forming the duet Hall & Oates, who signed with Atlantic Records in 1972.
