Juanita Phillips Career: - Phillips was born in Brisbane, where she started her career in journalism in 1982 as a cadet reporter at The Courier-Mail before moving on to become a columnist and feature writer there. Phillips worked as a reporter and presenter for TVQ-10 Brisbane in the early 1990s. In 1993, she made her national debut as a regular presenter on Ten Eyewitness News' weekend late edition (produced in Brisbane by Network Ten). After replacing Sandra Sully on TEN-10's Ten News First at Five a year later, Phillips relocated to Sydney to work with Ron Wilson on the program. She held the position of primary female presenter for the bulletin for two years before Jessica Rowe took over.
The ABC was forced to move to a simulcast of the Victoria state bulletin from its Melbourne station on November 30, 2007, while Phillips was presenting ABC News NSW due to an on-air coughing fit. This was done until Phillips' coughing fit abated. She explains the incident in her 2010 book, A Pressure Cooker Saved My Life, as the consequence of a stress-related laryngeal spasm.
