During his time in London, he was trained by Rees Gardner, a former US lightweight World champion. Despite his lack of experience on the mat, Jadhav finished sixth in the flyweight division thanks to Gardner's tutelage. In the opening few minutes of the match, he astonished the spectators by beating Australian wrestler Bert Harris. He went on to overcome Billy Jernigan of the United States before being ousted from the Games by Mansour Raeisi of Iran. After the long battle, he was asked to face Rashid Mammadbeyov of the Soviet Union. According to the regulations, at least 30 minutes of recuperation were necessary between fights. Still, no Indian official was present to pursue his case, a fatigued Jadhav failed to motivate, and Mammadbeyov took advantage of the opportunity to reach the final. He earned the bronze medal after defeating wrestlers from Canada, Mexico, and Germany on July 23, 1952, making him Independent India's first individual medal winner.
