He is best known for writing and starring in the sitcom Not Going Out, being a team captain on the BBC One comedy panel show Would I Lie to You?, hosting the Sky One panel show Duck Quacks Don't Echo, presenting the panel show They Think It's All Over, and co-hosting Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof (2022-) with Holly Willoughby. He's also appeared as a guest presenter on Have I Got News for You and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, as a captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and as a panellist on QI. In 2021, he made his BBC Radio 4 debut on the panel game I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.
He lived above a tavern until he was 12 years old, when his parents divorced. He attended Birkdale Primary Junior School (Bury Road), Southport's Stanley High School, and Blackburn's Everton High School. After graduating from high school, Mack worked in a bingo hall and as a stable boy. After three days of working at racehorse trainer Ginger McCain's stable in Southport, he requested if he might ride one of the horses, to which the trainer consented. Without realizing it, Mack picked Red Rum as his first horse to ride.
