Sandeep Unnikrishnan: - On 26 November 2008, a group of ten Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists attacked several buildings in Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident, and Nariman House. The terrorists had taken many people hostage in those buildings. The Indian Army gave Sandeep the charge of 'Team Commander' of 51 SAG. He has to rescue the hostages from the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Sandeep along with his ten commandos took out the hostages on the fifth and sixth floors. They discovered the presence of terrorists on the fourth floor.

 Unnikrishnan and his team entered the room, but the terrorists managed to escape from the room after detonating a grenade inside the room. For approximately the next 15 hours, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and his team continued to evacuate the hostages from the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

That day, he managed to rescue fourteen hostages. In this sequence, he got shot in his right hand. Despite being injured, he continued fighting the terrorists till his last breath. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan displayed extraordinary gallantry and leadership and made the supreme sacrifice for the country. There was also a film named 'Major' directed by Shashi Karan Tikka. The film represents the life of Sandeep Unnikrishnan, his struggles, and how his family was affected after his death.
