One of the best Indian vocalists of all time, he is highly acclaimed. In addition to singing in 16 different languages, he primarily worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi films.

Even in his final days, SPB was the only performer with a 54-year career who continued to record at least two songs daily. As a dedication to the people who have been actively working throughout the COVID-19 epidemic, such as police, physicians, nurses, and janitors, SPB sang the song "Bharath Bhoomi" in May 2020. The song's composition was done by Ilaiyaraaja.
