On 9th April 2023, Sunday morning in Paterson, New Jersey, Serif Zorba tried to kill the 65-year-old Imam Syed Elnakib inside Omar Mosque. Syed Elnakib was leading the preyers when this incident happened. During the time of Fajr prayer Serif saw the opportunity after everyone was kneeling in prayer and stabbed Imam Syed Elnakib who was leading the community at that time. Syed Elnakib was stabbed brutally in his lever repeatedly by him. Elnakib was taken to the hospital where he went under few surgeries. As per reports Sayed Elnakib has sustained injuries including liver damage, He has serious injuries but is in stable condition now. Zorba is currently in jail. His next court date is April 13.
