Sivaji Ganesan Death: - Ganesan was taken to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on July 1, 2001, with respiratory issues. He had also been suffering from a long-term cardiac condition for roughly ten years. He died on July 21, 2001, at 7:45 p.m. (IST), barely three months before his 73rd birthday, for which he had made particular arrangements. He had a State funeral. The next day, his burial was televised live on Sun TV and attended by thousands of spectators, politicians, and South Indian cinema celebrities.

C. Ganesan. According to media reports, the initial 'V' refers to Villupuram, however, one of Ganesan's sons claims it stands for Vettaithidal, the hamlet from whence their family comes. Ganesan chose to join a touring stage acting company at the age of seven, against his father's wishes.
