Early Career: - Irwin was born in Upper Ferntree Gully, a Melbourne suburb, on his mother's 20th birthday to Lyn (Hakainsson) and Bob Irwin. His parents were both English and Irish, with some Swedish ancestry on his mother's side. Irwin characterised his father as a wildlife specialist with a passion for herpetology, and his mother Lyn as a wildlife rehabilitator.
