Teesta Setalvad News- The Supreme Court granted Teesta Setalvad regular bail in a case involving falsified suspected evidence in the 2002 Gujarat riots. A three-judge bench of Justices B R Gavai, A S Bopanna, and Dipankar Datta overturned the Gujarat High Court's decision to deny her request for regular release. The top court further stated that while a charge sheet in the case against Teesta Setalvad has been submitted, no custodial questioning is required. Setalvad was arrested on June 25, 2018, alongside former Gujarat Director General of Police R B Sreekumar and ex-IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, in an Ahmedabad crime branch police case for allegedly fabricating evidence to frame innocent people in post-Godhra riots cases. On July 30, 2022, an Ahmedabad sessions court denied Setalvad and Sreekumar's bail petitions, stating that their release would send a message to wrongdoers that they may lodge claims with impunity and get away with it. On August 3, 2022, the High Court issued a notice to the state government on Setalvad's bail petition and scheduled a hearing for September 19.

Teesta Setalvad Career: - Setalvad worked as a mainstream journalist for a decade. She and her husband abandoned their normal professions in 1993 to launch Communalism Combat, a monthly magazine, in reaction to the Hindu-Muslim violence in Mumbai. According to Javed Anand (Setalvad's husband and co-founder of Communalism Combat), the decision to break away from conventional media to launch a magazine was made because it also provided a platform for them to interfere in ways they couldn't otherwise. The magazine's last print copy was printed in November 2012. They then transitioned to the digital arena by launching a website, which has now been dormant. On April 1, 2002, Setalvad and her husband, together with others such as Father Cedric Prakash (a Catholic priest), Anil Dharker (a journalist), Alyque Padamsee, Javed Akhtar, Vijay Tendulkar, and Rahul Bose (all cinema and theatre stars), founded the non-governmental organization "Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP)." The NGO immediately launched litigation in several courts against the alleged cooperation of Gujarat's Chief Minister and administration in the riots that had erupted soon before. Their efforts were partially successful when the Supreme Court of India shifted the "Best Bakery case" to the adjoining state of Maharashtra in April 2004.
Teesta contributed to the book Gujarat: The Making of a Tragedy, edited by Siddharth Varadarajan and published by Penguin, with the chapter When Guardians Betray: The Role of the Police. The book is about the Gujarat riots of 2002.
