The book and the film depict an odd Willy Wonka, a phoenix-like man arising from his creative and eccentric genius. He bewilders the other characters with his antics, but Charlie enjoys Mr. Wonka's behavior. In the 2005 film adaptation, Willy Wonka behavior is viewed more as a sympathetic character flaw. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

Willy Wonka directed by Mel Stuart, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a 1971 American musical fantasy film based on Roald Dahl's 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Dahl wrote the screenplay. Gene Wilder plays Willy Wonka, the candy maker, in it. In the movie, Peter Ostrum plays Charlie Bucket, a poor kid who, after discovering a Golden Ticket in a chocolate bar, gets to travel to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with four other kids from all over the world.

Munich was the location of filming from August through November 1970. The screenplay for the movie was credited to Dahl, but David Seltzer was brought in to rewrite it without receiving credit. The story was altered against Dahl's wishes, and the director also made other choices that caused Dahl to reject the movie. Leslie Bricusse and Anthony newly composed the musical pieces, and Walter Scharf oversaw and led the orchestral score.

Johnny Depp's performance

Johnny Depp, celebrated worldwide for his versatile acting skills and dedication to his craft, is an actor who has always been known for his love of complex and bold characters. Starting his career in the early 80s, Depp quickly caught the attention of both audiences and filmmakers with his diverse roles. Willy Wonka is a strange, zany, and vaguely evil character. In contrast to Dahl's original design, Johnny Depp's Wonka was presented as disturbed, socially awkward, and childlike, unlike previous iterations of the character. By fusing humor, innocence, and eeriness, Depp gave Wonka more dimensions and demonstrated his talent for giving life to unusual characters.

Depp, known for immersing himself in his roles, brought a unique childishness and vulnerability to Willy Wonka. Depp noted that his rendition of the character was inspired by Howard Hughes, eccentric and child-like. The development of Wonka’s character under Depp’s performance is an exemplification of Depp’s acting genius.
