In one film, customers are shown hiding in the dim interior of a restaurant as they watch traffic jammed by heavy rain outside the mall on live television. Gun violence is not uncommon in Thailand. Last year, a former police officer killed 22 children in a gun and knife attack at a daycare. In a 2020 shooting in and around the northeastern Thai city of Nakhon Ratchasima, a soldier shot and killed at least 29 people and wounded 57 others.
