Date Of Foundation Mitra Jyothi

Mitra Jyoti, founded in 1990, is a charity trust located in Bangalore that is registered under the Indian Trusts Act. Its main goal is to assist visually impaired people through a variety of initiatives. Talking book libraries, computer training centers, braille transcription centers, and job placements are among the initiatives available. In 2010, the Directorate of Disabled Welfare and Senior Citizens, Government of Karnataka, awarded it the State Award for excellent service to persons with disabilities.

 

Mitra Jyothi Activity

  • The Education Resource Centre assists people with vision impairments in their education by providing them with accessible reading materials. Books in the eText, ePub, DAISY (audio), mp3, and Braille formats are considered "accessible reading material."
  • Independent Living Skills is the most basic hands-on program at Mitra Jyothi, and it teaches people with visual difficulties how to be self-sufficient and confident. It is a 4-6 month residential life-skills training program that began in 1997 and has been running successfully since then.
  • Visually challenged students, from those with low vision to those who are completely blind, can get basic and advanced computer literacy training at the Computer Training Centre. This lesson is delivered using Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA), a free screen-reading program that allows persons with vision impairments to utilize computers.
    The Placement Cell assists people with varied disabilities in finding work.
  • The Placement Cell assists people with a variety of disabilities, including orthopaedic limitations, speech and hearing impairment, and vision impairment, in finding work. This cell's comprehensive readiness support includes grooming, soft skill training, and logistical help, among other things.

Ms. Madhu Singhal, who has been visually impaired herself, is the Managing Trustee/Founder of Mitra Jyothi. She established Mitra Jyothi in 1990 along with the support of 8 other individuals. She was given National Award in December 2008 for her achievement in working for the cause of people with disabilities. She was also awarded “Sadguru Gnanananda Awardees 2011” in the category Woman Social Entrepreneur, empowering the visually impaired.
