Monal Naval, the younger sister of famous actress Simran Naval, committed herself on April 14, 2002, at the age of 21. She was discovered hanging with a dupatta on the ninth floor of her flat in Vadapalani, Pali Hill, Chennai. The cause of her death is unknown because she did not leave a suicide note, but theories abound as to why this lively young woman with apparently all the proper connections committed suicide. Her sister accused choreographer Prasanna Sujit of being a probable reason for her death in May 2002, stating that Prasanna had broken up his connection with her just days before.

Simran turned to Twitter to commemorate her sister on the 20th anniversary of her death. "I may not have you here, but I know we will always have each other," she wrote in a touching statement. Even after 20 years, a small portion of you lives on in me. Monu, we all miss you. Forever.”
